Yet another black day for my black ford escort 1.8 turbo diesel. My right long drive shaft is broken! I hope I can get some pictures of it when I go home.

I took the escort to my dad’s garage only to find out that the driveshat is broken. I mean it shook pretty much up until now but it was from the tripod in the middle of the drive shaft. Now the real mess is in the CV joint at the gearbox end (the small part of the driveshaft that connects gearbox to the rest of the driveshaft). It has some interior teeth that are almost smooth now, so the drive haft just spins free now.

The big problem is that I could not take the driveshaft off, even with a crowbar, so I had to work for a day with my father to take down the gearbox (by the way, if you ever need to do that go to a mechanic because it’s just so damn complicated). After that a couple of hours with a mechanic to take out the CV joint of the drive shaft.

Now comes the hard part: finding a second hand drive shaft for my ford escort, mounting the gearbox back to it’s place and of course, not forgetting any screws out. I tell you, go find a good mechanic or take it to a specialized service, don’t do this yourself because it’s so freaking hard.

The good part in all this is that I found my clutch disk to be warn off, so I’ll need one of this too and since the gear box is down, I’ll be glad to change it now.

Oh, since I’m on this subject, I had to change my battery and my fuel filter in order to start the car at -15 degrees Celsius.

As somebody said, if you ever get a choice don’t buy a ford escort.
