I saw a couple of nights ago a Discovery Chanel episode on gadgets - the story of iPods. And I thought - wow, this should be good. It was a total disappointment. Maybe they didn’t want to present-it that way, but it was all about the people who don’t use their brains. Unfortunately most of them live in the U.S. of America, (check this out) but occasionally you will find some (definitively less) in Europe or Asia.

So, what’s this all about? A simple iPod. I was watching this documentary that goes like : When Apple introduced the iPod in 2001, many people thought that it is no more than “a little boom box.” Critics stated the “toy” had no place in higher education. Well, they were right.

Steve Jobs dreamed about a perfect MP3 player that would be so easy to use that a monkey should be able to play music on it. It should look so good that it should reach the status of an clothing accessory. And it should only play music downloaded from a Mac, from his own store - the Itunes. Do you want me to translate this for you?

  1. The iPod is so simple to use that it has only a few buttons (not even a dedicated turn off button) Now, we Europeans with a little more brain than an ape like some more advanced features. But Mr. Jobs thoughts went to the people who don’t know what an advanced feature at a fingertip away is.
  2. iPod trend - if you know what that is. Hey, this guy has one of those iPods, he is so cool with that white earbuds, I want one too. Do you recognize here the kind of behavior of teenage girls that have a BMW and all day long think about Gucci 20.000$ bags? What the hack, do you want a MP3 player or 400$ plastic earrings?
  3. Do you want to listen to your favorite MP3 songs or audio CD-s? Well, you can’t. Why hunt on the internet as you like for your FREE favorite song when Steve Jobs makes a fortune selling you his iTunes. Because you’re too lazy to search for a free song! Or too stupid?

That’s the difference between lazy people and Europeans. The same thing goes for The Mac vs PC. If you’re too lazy or not smart enough we have the answer for you: Buy a MAC! It never crashes, so you don’t have to use your brain to haunt down the problem. It does 3 things best and never hangs in them. That is because the MAC only knows 3 things and it even needs an operating system for them. While the PC is unlimited and gives you freedom to create and use your imagination (all tough I have yo admit it crashes from time to time).

You can upgrade your PC (if you’re smart enough) but can you upgrade a MAC? No, you’ll have to buy a new one. Don’t think about upgrading, you don’t have enough brain for it? - no problem, just open your pockets and buy a new one! In fact don’t think at all, just buy a MAC, you’ll never ever have to use your brain again :).

You won’t find a person in Romania with white ear buds walking on the streets. If by any chance you’ll find one, ask him why he bought the iPod. Because I haven’t seen one yet. We are using our brains not our money. You won’t find a person in Romania using a MAC. They all have PC-s. They all know how to use it. They are smart enough to know when it’s time to upgrade not throw away and buy a new one. They are not limited by the 3 things that a MAC can do.

We like to keep our options open, our mind free, and yes Steve Jobs, we are not limited by your iPods and MACs.
