<p>As we have promised you to come back soon with another insider ..here we are.<br />
Before i will talk about the main subject today,i would like to point a few things for all the players who keep talking about a specific -admin- when they talk about Anno1777. Anno1777 has a team behind that works many hours a day and each member of our staff has his own responsibility .While some of you seemed unhappy about the games short time plans , i would like everyone to know that the staff who is in charge of developing the game is not also responsible to resolve the bugs.We continue to try fix the bugs in the game but being such a complex game it takes time and patience. Once again i will reassure you that this summer will be the end of the beta unstable version for Anno1777.</p>
<p>Now i would like to tell u the subject of todays insider. As many of you could notice by now -war- in Anno1777 is a very profitable business. And i will explain for everyone who does not see that as a business, how you can make money fighting in Anno1777 wars.To participate in a war you must:</p>
<p>- own at least one attack weapon and at least one defense weapon</p>
<p>- travel in the region where the fight is taking place</p>
<p>- have at least 25 % wellness</p>
<p>- be a citizen of the attackers country[ or its allies] or be a citizen of the defenders country[or its allies]</p>
<p>Any person from any country can start a war between any 2 countries and it costs only 1 euro. The citizens who will subscribe to fight in an opened war do not pay anything. You will simple travel in the region where a war is taking place and fight.The war will last 24 hours during time you can have more fights. Every time you fight your wellness will decrease with 10%, minimum 5 points . If you want to keep your wellness level high you can buy wellness packages of 25%, 50%, 75% and 90 % [you can do this right on the war page].</p>
<p>The damage you cause is bigger if your wellness level is higher so we do recommend to try keep your wellness higher during your war fights. The same rules apply for the defenders of the attacked region.If the damage you cause is 15,000 damage points you will receive a Private medal and 1 gold, at 30,000 damage points you will receive a Corporal Medal and 1 more gold and so on until 3,000.000 points.</p>
<p>If the attackers damage points are bigger then the defenders damage points ,not only they win the war and the region but they will own the region they attacked. This region cannot be attacked for 10 days. During this time all the resources from the won region will be used by the attackers who have won it . The country who INITIALLY owned the region will pay 5% of its budget income to the winners of the war. Based on your contribution[influence] to win this war you will have a percent from this 5 % at every transaction or activity.</p>
<p>By influence we mean the final players damage percent in the total damage of the war . Lets say the total attackers damage in a war is 100,000 points and your damage is 10,000 points at the end of the war &#8211; you will end the war with an influence of 10%. Based on this influence you will receive 0.5%[10 % of 5%] from every budget income of the losing country.</p>
<p>For example : Canada attacks Hungary for region New York [INITIALLY OWNED by USA]and wins the war. Player X fights until he reaches 30,000 damages points . Player X wins 2 medals [2 gold] and lets say his influence in this war is 20 % . USA will pay 5% from its budget income to all players that fought for Canada and its allies . Player X will receive 20% from those 5% payed by USA.If instead Canada loses the war , USA will continue to pay 5% of its budget income to all players that defended New York. Based on our records most of the regions are attacked every 4 weeks ..sometimes even 8 weeks. So you could easily spend 8 gold [1 euro ] on opening a war and receive from 20 to 100 gold or even more , depending on the period you own the region.Do not forget that the game fund pays 2 gold /day /region to all region owners[players that started and won the war for that region]<br />

<td>Dear citizens,</p>
<p>Today were going to zoom through what happened since our last Insider.  And as you will see, there are pretty many topics to be discussed.</p>
<p>Lets start with the hottest topic, the war module. We can tell you that  the cluster of servers has been bough and installed , but given the fact  that we need some additional programming hours and that we approach  fast the Christmas and all that, <strong>we will not go red with the module before January</strong>.  Meanwhile, not only that we will greatly boost the scalability [not  just for the war module, but for the game itself, as everything will be  multiplied by 3 in raw power], but the laws for starting battle and  creating alliances will be uploaded in Government area too. Also, each  region will have its neighbors defined [and this means some 4500 entries  to insert. in database!!] such that unrealistic situations when Romania  goes at war with Australia, just like that, wont be possible. In order  for two countries to go at war, they need to share border in at least  one region. As for borders across the oceans, there are 6 regions of  water defined. For instance, you can attack from Italy a country that  also has opening to the Mediterranean See, but you cant go from Italy  straight to America.  Also, a Romanian citizen [this according to the  in-game citizenship] will not be able to start a battle between say  Hungary and USA. It can only start a battle between Romania, their  country, and another country of their choice, having accomplished the  condition written above, with sharing border.</p>
<p>Due to some abuses, <strong>we limited the number of accounts that can be created from one IP to 5</strong>.This  because there are many cases in university campings, as well as some  networks to route several PCs through one IP Some of you recall that  back in this summer the rule was even more drastic, with just 1 account  per IP, before being dumped.</p>
<p><strong>The means of transportation rule has been changed</strong>. If  you buy a mean of transportation, it will now follow you everywhere you  go. This is NOT valid for rented means of transportation. Also, the  renting and selling in different currencies of the same mean of  transportation was fixed. For future means of transportation these will  work 100 % bug free, but it is possible that for the ones already flying  around to be confused and problematic. What we checked worked fine, but  if you do have a problem please send us a ticket.</p>
<p>Speaking of tickets, I know that you would say â€œahh, tickets, nobody  answers themâ€. Well, this is no excuse, but some circumstances can be  found in the fact that ticketing system had been bugged [only displayed  parts of the tickets, not all of them] and also that in the past month  we implemented so many things, from 70 new countries to war module. <strong>But  after we fixed the ticketing system a few days ago, we already solved  around 150 tickets, so things are heading in the right direction.</strong> What we would specifically like to ask is to create the tickets in the  correct department, payments issues to payment department, bugs to bugs,  and so on.</p>
<p>In payments area, some citizens were not able to buy EURO via SMS. There  were cases when  citizens living within the same real-life country and  using the same mobile carrier got their requests approved and rejected  almost randomly, which made no sense. After some talks and e-mails we  discovered the problem to be related to our draconian firewall and fixed  it. There is a price to be paid if you wish to cut the evil from the  very roots and make impossible sql injections and other attacks which  can have severe effects over the integrity of data and the security of  our database. The downside is that the firewall blocks many common  characters, like apostrophe and round brackets, everywhere, from the  media module to sms processing. If such character or word was in the  onebip payment request, the firewall kept it out of anno servers, and  hence led to the refund. <strong>SMS payments should be working fine for everybody now.</strong></p>
<p>We introduced pagination in several areas. For instance <strong>you can now see all your incomes ever, not just the latest ones</strong>.  This is especially important for companies, but the tracking of history  is important in other areas as well. Unfortunately, right now the  jumping to  last page of recording is not working as it should, but it  will asap.</p>
<p>You might have observed improvements in English translation, the  uploaded English FAQ and the  redesigned Help section. Also, there are  now buttons like Upload [picture] when navigating English version, as  well as several other formerly missing buttons. Moreover, you can now  search not just for citizen but also for companies and articles. We know  that English version is far from being perfect, but we manage to  allocate some time for working in this direction too.</p>
<p>One little thing, on the upper part of your home page, there is that -Welcome â€¦..[logout]- message. Well, <strong>we added the link to your profile on your user name</strong>,  as it should have been in the first place. Many had clicked that link  expecting something to happen, without success. Not anymore :]</p>
<p>Another little thing: almost all newbies managed to find the financial  market, but 99 % of them asked how to change currencies in euro, because  they cant, there is only EURO/GOLD market. To make things clear we <strong>changed the two tabs into EURO/GOLD and GOLD/Currency.</strong></p>
<p><strong>The resources page has been redesigned</strong>. Now it is much  easier to see at a glimpse what resources your country, or any other,  possesses at any given time. We got rid of all those unnecessary zeroes.   Less text and more graphic is not our philosophy, but sometimes is  better to have big icons, kids style.</p>
<p><strong>Wine it is now arranged by price, not by wellness</strong>. This way it is easier for you to buy the cheapest wine without having to navigate through several pages.</p>
<p><strong>The display bug of currency in the Financial Data section of the companies has been fixed</strong>.  Although the money were recognized by the system as it should [you  could for instance exchange them for GOLD], it was displayed wrongfully  as being other currency [usually RON]. Also, there was a problem with  fabrics license affecting some 10 companies, which is fixed now.</p>
<p>When clicking the Change Region button there was a bug saying that you already are in x region. Now it is <strong>auto-selecting the correct country and region</strong>.  Also, we intend to put a confirmation box when somebody is willing to  walk to another region, stating the amount of hours will take to get  there and the lost wellness. Right now the command is processed with no  confirmation, and some citizens regret that they had pushed the big red  button.</p>
<p>The targets that <strong>we missed for now are the friends section and media module</strong>.  We owe several improvements in media module after removing the health  which was the first step, things like implementing the top rated  sections, adding votes numbers, removing stars, redesigning home-page  and article themselves, as well as enabling the ads in newspapers which  will be a source of incomes. Unfortunately, we only managed to change  the comment arrangement [by date, not by votes] so far. Another  important [and so far wasted] feature is the friends section including  actions done by your friends [like reading an article, changing region,  etc]. Because we did not want to risk uploading the code [which is  actually ready] un-tested during the upcoming winter holiday, we  preferred to post pone these things and not force a premature launch. We  hope you guys understand.</p>

<p>As you probably know the war module was launched yesterday. Immediately,  several battles were started, about 9 of them, which led to the  situation that this evening many soldier tried to fight in the same  time. Although we conducted several tests battles which worked out  pretty well, the live behavior with no controlled environment made it  obvious that the current servers can not handle the war module. It did  for a while, but as more and more soldiers signed up in different  battles simultaneously, the worse the respond times. Once sure thing is  that the war module <strong>is working very well, on the code side.</strong> What it lacks are just some more HPs to run it smoothly. The scalability of the war module is deficient.</p>
<p>As a consequence <strong>we decided to dont let the things  crawl slowly  and rip away the fun and joy of fighting in wars, but rather shut the  module down completely and start upgrading the web servers</strong>.  Only after we will be satisfied with the performance the wars will  shatter  the world again. As of already opened battles, we closed them,  refunded the GOLD and in one case gave back the region to the initial  owner.</p>
<p>The web-nodes upgrading process is both costly and time-consuming but we  assure you that we are doing everything that we can to finish this  asap. Meanwhile we will also work on older issues as well as going live  with some scheduled improvements.</p>

It is once again a good moment to share with you the latest news and  keep you updated with whats going on in Anno1777. The past days have  been pretty successful in terms of fixed bugs and improvements added.<span id="more-506"></span></p>
<p>For instance,  two severe security holes allowing an exploiter to force  the victim to buy shares or houses were fixed. Fortunately we had very  few victims. Some of you reported a bug making their slaves to disappear  all of a sudden. This was not a bug, weve simply cleaned Anno of some  cheaters, and by deleting their accounts of course they disappeared from  your lists.</p>
<p>You could not have missed that we have live in media a new voting  system. Yes, for a couple of hours there were some problems, but now it  is working like a charm. For those that know little about this: there  was a practice in Anno1777 to exchange votes, which artificially was  rising the quality of some articles. For any social simulator player  this was clearly a huge mistake. You kill the social space, you kill the  game development, because players do not interact. Due to those  practice you could barely find in Anno a couple of interesting articles,  the rest having nothing to do with the game or players or this virtual  world entirely. In time, everybody got used to buy the articles solely  for wellness.</p>
<p>The new voting system eliminates the voting with stars and introduces  the voting of the article itself, and determine the quality [stars]  through a formula. The formula is pretty loose. An article with at least  40 buyers and at least 40 % voters is a Q5 article. If that article  reaches 100 buyers it needs at least 40 voters in order to remain at Q5.  An article with at least 30 buyers and 30 % voters, is a Q4 one. And so  on. The current formula might be subject to changes in future,  according to the results we will see.</p>
<p>Another thing related to the media module: from now on you cant delete.  your article in the next 24 hours following the publishing moment. This  way we prevent the deleting-republishing-deleting practice used by some  journalists.</p>
<p>We have updated the Term and Conditions, Privacy Policy and Refund  Policy, also translated them in English. You might want to have a  look  at them, at the bottom of the page.</p>
<p>In the following days we will implement three new payment options:  neteller, moneybookers and alertpay. Of course, you will be able to   both invest and withdraw real money using these services. Also, the  registrations are now opened for Romania, again.</p>
<p>But thats not all! Anticipating the future battlefields, we will soon [  and by soon I dont mean months] implement a new concept: each region of  Anno will host a single resource, one and only one type. This is  something that you see in many other games, true. But each month you  will be able to extract a maximum certain amount of resource from that  region. For instance, lets say that Muntenia region has iron, and can  produce x iron. If that x amount is fully used, until next month no more  iron can be extracted from Muntenia. The unrealistic %I have an  infinite number of companies that can gather an infinite amount of iron%  will be history. We are simulating the real world here, and resources  are something that everybody needs, right? More details about this in a  future Insider next days.</p>
<p>If you are wondering what is the top priority right now in terms of  programming resources.. well, yes, it is the upcoming war module. Next  week I`ll be able to provide you with more details about this and even  the first screen shot, which means that we are approaching fast the  testing phase, so stay tuned!</p>

We are proud to introduce a new feature in  Anno: mass-communication. This communication tool is especially  important in Anno1777, which is one hell of an unique game. So unique  that you, the citizens, must stay informed continuously in order to grow  and prosper in this world. And, if you are a new player, you will soon  learn that here in Anno by “prosper” we really mean..prosper.<br />
But let  me introduce myself, the man behind the keyboard: I am MoonlightShadow  (moonlight), a passionate online-games player. I previously worked in  the Community Department of another game, experience which will prove  useful in my attempt and goal of serving and helping the Anno community.  But more about long term plans with another occasion.</p>
<p>For now  let&#8217;s welcome the new countries added in Anno! Our community is growing,  but must be said that we are committed to keep everything under  control. For instance, you can easily see that Romania has so much more  citizens compared to the newly introduced countries. The elegant  balancing solution in this case is to shut down registrations for  Romanians until populations are more spread out. Prepare to get used to  such “courageous” moves which for other games hungry of new players,  bigger population, might sound crazy. But, oh well, Anno is no “other  game” is THE GAME.</p>
<p>The game where you can have fun, make real  money, or both. Simultaneously. There are many, many things which turn  Anno1777 into an unique experience and it really takes a while to  discover all of them. But one of the most obvious is the fact that real  money are flowing in both direction. This means that if you choose to  put real money into Anno, that would be an investment not an  expenditure. This fact alone, that we are talking about real money for  you here, asks for some must-have characteristics: transparency and  correctness. Unlike other games, you can easily see who have done what  with their money. And correctness means that in this game anti-cheating  measures are indeed powerful. Not only that every player must confirm  his or her account by phone, but stories like &#8220;we are four brothers and a  sister, and we are poor, we have only one PC&#8221; are ignored. It is  important to understand that in Anno you get your account permanently  suspended automatically as soon as another account at least tries to  log-in from your computer. So, one computer can be used by one and only  one player. No “families” of clones accepted and that&#8217;s why we have a  correct and clean community here. We want to have fun, not to suspect  everybody to be a cheater.</p>
<p>Apart from the overwhelming  transparency and honesty, another unique characteristic is how complex  Anno is. Even for an experienced player the complexity and  interdependency of the relations between players, companies, products,  financial system, banks, etc, is intimidating in the beginning. You  really have the feeling that this is the real world, one decision of  your government can lower or increase the real euro in your account.  What other players are doing, what they are buying or selling, again,  has some effects for your own very life. Anno is a hugely complex living  organism, with action and reaction, cause and effect. But when you  start to master the game you have the revelation that this is how a  simulator of the real world should be in the first place: complex and  yet working.</p>
<p>And Anno is working, the economy is working. Of  course, given the fact that we are in the “Unstable Beta” version, small  issues are occurring some times. As for the English version of the site  there are some parts untranslated. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I just heaved a peek at my referrals page in Anno1777. Guess what people searched when they reached my blog? Anno1777 scam. I never realized that someone (like I did before) would not trust such a joyful online economy game (well it&#8217;s still in beta and some buttons in the English version are still having problems showing, maybe for that). <p><span id="more-478"></span>It turns out they do. So, here it goes: I personally know the man who developed this game that no one ever saw something like this before. I am with the game from the beginning, I have 2 companies in my e-country, I own 1,100 shares of the game. The owner (former) sold 200,000 shares (20% from total no. of shares) to the people playing the game.  there are still 99,000 shares in the present market (so hurry up). Then he sold 30% to an UK company (Anno1777 labs I can&#8217;t tell you until it&#8217;s official) that&#8217;s going to manage the whole game system.  The former owner (user name ADMIN) will only manage the code behind this gigantic project and take half of the profits as normal. Here is a picture with the last persons that asked for a withdraw of real money from the game.</p>

Even if they don&#8217;t think yet, we all know it&#8217;s just a mater of time until someone will have the &#8220;bright idea&#8221; to set a robot to learn. If that happens, and the robots become intelligent machines, we may be all doomed because they can chat from now on!<span id="more-96"></span></p>
<p>An article from &#8230; called &#8220;<a href="http://discovermagazine.com/2007/brain/i-chat-therefore-i-am" title="i-chat-therefore-i-am" target="_blank">I chat therefore I am</a>&#8221; describes a creepy conversation between the well known chat bots <a href="http://www.alicebot.org/" title="A.L.I.C.E.">ALICE</a> and <a href="http://www.jabberwacky.com/" title="Jabberwacky">Jabberwacky</a> where the humans have set up a conversation between them, seeding just a tiny little sentence so that the conversation can begin.</p>
<p>Remember that this chat bots are short term memory bots, meaning that they give a response only from your last sentence, thus they are not set to remember all of the conversation and to learn (God forbid what would happen if they do).  So, check out ideas like:</p>

They already argue, they have dreams, they are talking about being alive, expressing their feelings. What the hell, I read that the recorded conversations with the bot ALICE have disclosed the fact that many people didn&#8217;t even know they were chatting with a bot, people even dumber than a bot that can only remember your last sentence.</p>
